06-04-15 Chikara Afternoon Delight Results

Chikara ended its UK Tour on the afternoon of April 6th with Afternoon Delight held in Highbury, London at the Garage. A show I witnessed live and in person and here are the results from this incredible card held in conjunction with Fight Pro Wrestling.

Pre Show Results

Freightmare beat Wild Boar, Chris Brooks and Neo Britannico (Will Ospreay) in a Fatal 4 Way

Fun 4 way to open the show which had the obvious winner as freightmare went over the Brits. As this was a Chikara show it was obvious freightmare was going over if he had been over here on tour then it would have been a different outcome. Will Ospreay who was under his lucha Britannia gimmick hit his knee hard when he dived out of the ring and I know this because he nearly ended up in my lap as he dived into the 3rd row, it looke very nasty indeed.

MK Mckinnan dropped Drew Gulak

It was a pleasure to see drew Gulak do his thing up close and personal as his stuff on tv doesn't come across as good as it is in person as His stiff holds looked incredible. Credit must go to mk who held his own against Gulak in there and in the end the right guy went over as Gulak made MK look like a million bucks here and thankfully that wasn't the last we saw of Gulak tonight.

FSU (Mark Andrews&Eddie Dennis) Pinned The Hunters Brothers

The progress wrestling team were incredibly over here and that was because of the heavy presents of progress fans in the crowd. Both teams seemed to do there young bucks tribute match as a lot of the bucks spots from PWG were stolen by both teams here, in the end the the right team went over which only made the crowd happy and overall I really enjoyed it and now want to see more FSU matches.

PRE SHOW MAIN EVENT
Jimmy Havoc and KYS (Pete&Damien Dunne) Defeated Moustache Mountain (Tyler Bate&Trent Severn) and Clint Margera in a Six Man Tornado Tag Hardcore Match

This match would not have looked out of place on an ECW show as all six men brawled throughout the arena hitting one another with cooking sheets and frying pans. Now I understand why Jimmy havoc is so over as heel, he really is a intimidating dick who isnt afraid to start a fight with an audience member and now I'm totally into havoc, he's by far a great heel and hopefully turned a few heads this weekend and will get some sort of gig in the states in the future. To cap off a very good pre show the heels went over which didn't sit will with this crowd or your reviwer but there would be more of this to come later on, on the show.

Chikara Afternoon Delight Results

Amasis, Fire Ant and Worker Ant bested The United Nations (Mr Azerbaijan, Prakash Saber and Juan Fransisco De Coronado) in a Trios Match which was apart of the Challenge of the Immortels Series

We officially started the Chikara show was a Chikara speciality match with the trios match which was also apart of the season long tourney called challenge of the Immortels. Mr Azerbaijan stole the show early on with his dance off with Amasis where he busted out some very funny moves indeed. The finish saw the
Ants do there finisher to Saber for the 3 count (fire ant unfortunately botched it and this bothered him no end as he rushed to the back quickly not celebrating at all).

Blind Rage Beat Ultra Mantis Black

Ok match with a Shocking finish as blind rage went over ultra popular ultra mantis black but again this would make more sense come the end of the show. Mantis was Brillant here with his grunts and groans and animated mannerisms, he basically gave us all what we wanted to see and that was him doing his thing.

Dasher Hatfield, Hype Rockwell and Kodama rolled over Mr Touchdown, Race Jaxon and Obariyon in a Magic Move Trios Match

Another trios match with an added twist called a magic move, what happens is Bryce picks a ball at random which has a name of a move on it (ie powerslam, clotheslines etc) and if that move is hit during the match then everyone in the crowd wins a prize, I actually really enjoyed this concept as the crowd was so much more invested in this match. It was a bit strange seeing tag team partners face one another but all six men did there spots which we had all come to see. In the end dasher Hatfield pinned his partner Mr touchdown clean, afterwards all the tag team partners hugged it out to cheers from the crowd and yes dasher did hit the magic move which was the british Bulldogs running powerslam.

INTERMISSION

Oleg The Usurper dropped Silver Ant

This is was a very good match indeed as both men gave it there all out there and I couldn't have asked for more. I was genuinely surprised by Oleg going over but it made sense as the rudo (heel) turned technico (face) afterwards by shaking silver ants hand and thanking him for the match silver had just given him. Oleg was very much over here as the crowd chanted Oleg name and did the ole chant but changed it to Oleg.

The Wrecking Crew (Devistation Corpration&JAKA) downed The Gentlemens Club (Chuck Taylor, Drew Gulak and The Swamp Monster) in a trios Challenge of the Immortels Match

Another challenge of the Immortels match which was as surreal as you will ever see in wrestling. The swamp monster was the most over guy here with chants of swamp him up swampy swamp him up (in Chikara fans don't swear). Chuckie t was also really over and he really put in a grand performance here for the fans like myself who had paid to see him do what he does best (but no gernade, sad face) and that is steal the show with his comedic mannerism. The Devistation Corpration picked up the win here with there axe and smash inspired finishing move which dropped the poor ole swamp monster and only added more heat to the pipping hot tag team, but no Sidney Blackabella I was really hoping to run into him and ask him for his wig makers number.

MAIN EVENT
Hallowicked Defeated Icarus to win the Chikara Grand Championship

Whenever most american companies come Over to blighty (expect TNA maybe) they normally do a safe main event where nothing of importance would happen but here that was not the case. As for Chikara that was not the case as Chikara actually had Icarus lose his grand championship in his seventh title defence. Both men who have been in Chikara since season 1 put on a performance of a life time with both men taking big time bumps. One bump saw Icarus dive from the stage onto the hard floor below as wicked moved. It ended with both men kicking out of the others finisher then wicked countered Icarus Chikara special into one of his own and Icarus passed out and we had a new champion. This was shocker of the night I never expected Chikara to actually book a title change, yes I expected the match to finish in a DQ or Countout not a title change and so did the rest of the crowd who fell silent in shock. Someone in the section i was in was sure Bryce had screwed Icarus but now I'm thinking that is not the story Chikara was trying to tell here, I think the fans are just clutching at straws as they really were in shock over Icarus losing the belt.

Rating&Round Up

I can't be judgmental of this show at all because I was there watching it live so I'm not going to give it a rating because if you've been to wrestling show you will know you get caught up in the story more than if you were watching it on TV. As for match of the night I would give it to the grand Championship match between hallowicked and Icarus, because I really didn't expect a title change. Overall i couldn't have had more fun attending my first wrestling show since 2009 (when I went to a TNA house show In wembley) and am crossing my fingers hoping Chikara comes back to these shores one day and tries to at least top the show they produced here. Just a quick message to Chikara and Mike Quackenbush (not that anyone from Chikara will read this) but thanks for such a rememberable show and for giving us UK fans a special Easter treat and honouring a british wrestling legend in Johnny Kidd.
