This week on NXT was a showcase of NXT at wwe Axcess event held in the days running up to wwe granddaddy of em all WrestleMania and a special look at Hideo Itami journey onto the showcase of the Immortels card.
Results
We get a video package hyping the hype surrounding Wrestlemania and nxt, then it's over to a video package showing highlights of first round matches held to determine who would be in the andre the giant battle royal at mania. Finn Balor downed Baron Corbain, Tyler Breeze beat Bull Dempsey, Hideo Itami pinned Bull Dempsey and finally in 1st round action Adrain Neville defeated Kalisto. Then it's into the show proper and full lenght matches begin.
Semi Final Match: Adrain Neville Vs Hideo Itami
Very good match to open the show where neville played heel and Hideo played babyface and it actually ended up working for them as the crowd was so hot for them. Hideo used the fujinami dragon sleeper to try and gain a victory at one point but Neville was able to broke the hold, he also teased the GTS. The finish saw Neville go for the red arrow but Hideo moved, Neville landed on his feet. Neville then turned around and walked into a running kick by Hideo and Itami advanced to the finals.
Winner: Hideo Itami
It was right into match number two after a advert plugging wwe awful merchandising range.
Semi Final Match: Finn Balor Vs Tyler Breeze
A good match between these two but had a little trouble topping Itami v Neville, both men were yet again over with this crowd. It ended when breeze missed a super model kick and Balor nailed breeze with a Bloody Sunday ddt for a near fall but he then followed it up with a double foot stomp to breeze to pick up the win.
Winner: Finn Balor
A video is shown on the NXT house show held two days before WrestleMaina which drew over 5,400 in San Jose, this show came with high praise from critics and after seeing this video package I can see why. A graphic is shown plugging the next match which is the main event and final of the tonights tournament, whoever wins gets a spot in the Andre the giant battle royal.
MAIN EVENT
FINAL: Hideo Itami Vs Finn Balor
There is a big match fill to this one and the announce team did a great job of conveying this throughout this match. Both men traded hold on the mats early on but have a counter and reversal for everything they did to one another. Hideo works over Balor with a Wrist lock which again Balor has a counter for by reversing it into an arm bar. Big drop kick by Balor for a near fall on Hideo, then Hideo gives Balor a big knee lift and a kick for a nearfall. Hideo applies the sleeper but eventually Balor breaks it, sunset flip by Hideo but Balor rolls through and nails him with a dropkick for the near fall. Another 2 count for Balor who gives Hideo a enzuigiri, Hideo battles back with a top rope clothesline to Balor for a 2 count. Another GTS tease by Hideo but Balor counters it but Hideo follows it up with a pela kick. Both men slug it out in mid ring exchanging forearm and elbow smashes with one another. Hideo follows up with the combination strike move and lands a hesitation drop kick for a 2 count. Balor battles back with a sling blade and drop kick then he heads up top. Balor goes for the double stomp but Hideo cuts him off and has Balor on his shoulders and teases the GTS again but Balor counters out. Balor rolls up Hideo but Hideo rolls through and Hideo nails Balor with the running kick to pick up the win and advance to the andre the giant battle royal.
Winner: Hideo Itami
Great match to end this portion of the show Both men put it all on the line in this one, it surly has to go down along with Zayn v Cesero, regal v Onho and zayn v owens as one of the greatest NXT matches since NXT began in the summer of 2012. To end the show a great video package airs on Hideo Itami's journey to WrestleMania which was very different and felt like a ufc countdown special and added a new layer to the Hideo Itami character.
